Lorena Garcia’s work in the nonprofit community across Colorado has resulted in potentially life-changing results. Here are just a few of her accomplishments:
- Named Cesar Chavez Award recipient in 2011
- Featured as one of the 100 Women We Love in Go Magazine in 2013
- Named Voices of Vision Award recipient from the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault in 2016
- Trained over a hundred women on their rights in the workplace, so they could advocate for themselves against sexual harassment and sexism
- Helped lead the successful effort in 2008 to fight against an anti-affirmative action ballot initiative in Colorado
- Supported communities in Nepal and Nicaragua to improve their well-being through the implementation of programs that supported women in achieving economic independence and improving their educational infrastructure
- Led the state’s leading reproductive justice organization’s first policy initiatives, which led to early victories including banning the practice of shackling pregnant and laboring inmates, expanding birthing options for families, and making sure every school that teaches sexual health education, uses a comprehensive approach
- Received her BA from CU Boulder and her MBA from George Washington University while working full time
